How did they manage not knowing?
Today has been a pretty emotional day. I have several friends that are pregnant too. Of the group of eight I am the latest due date. This has been pretty cool so far since one by one they all started wearing maternity clothes and really showing and I knew I would soon be there too. But now, I am not having that much fun being last. All of them have found out what they are having. Those who know me, know I am not good at waiting. I hate cliffhangers and stay tuned fors. Frankly I think that when a woman gets pregnant her belly should turn either pink or blue, or instead of that dark line on our bellies we should get either a star for a boy or a heart for a girl. I don't understand how our foremothers managed the whole pregnancy not knowing what they were having. I can understand that some women live for suprises and choose not to know even in today's technological world, but at least they have the choice. In our group of eight, the two that have girls already are having boys and the other five that have boys already are having girls. How perfect is that? Here is my theory... they have used up all the opposite gender wishes coming true and I will have another boy. I just know I will be the odd duck. In my emotional state today I even had a ten minute sob fest when the last one told me she too is having a girl. Her husband is very disappointed. He had proclaimed that there would be no girls in their house. She is kind of happy, but wished for a boy to help keep the peace. This really set me off. I went down the path of how dare they have my girl when they want the boy I know I am carrying? I know selfish, but not any more than the man whose reaction is I guess I have to make do with what God gave me, even if it is a girl. Don't get me wrong, I will love my son as much as I love the son I already have. I will be wholeheartedly devoted to him and all that his life will bring to ours. If only I knew for sure. I hate the not knowing. At least if I knew I could focus my energies and thoughts onto one gender. Instead I dream of girly things and then feel guilty that I am not dreaming of another batch of blue. I know there is not a darn thing I can do but wait... I just don't like it!!

Too old to party
Last night my husband and I went on a REAL DATE. Dinner and the Toby Keith concert. We had tickets in the 15th row. We were right in the action. We were even in an audience shot on the Jumbotron. The concert was amazing, but it just didn't feel right to be dancing with my belly hanging out there. Especially not near the "hoochie mamas" who almost disappeared when they turned sideways. The baby really started rockin' when Joe Nichols played the theme to Duke's of Hazzard. Then I knew it must be a boy! Then about halfway through Toby's set the baby was kicking to the beat of the song. Then I knew it must be a girl since there are no boys in our family with any rhythm! I hate the not knowing :) Arlen and I decided we were getting too old to do this very often when we were almost asleep in the car at midnight waiting for the parking lot to clear enough to get out. Sad, Sad, Sad.
Then this morning we turned around and took Jake to a gymnastics meet (just to watch). He was so excited, but Arlen and I had a hard time keeping up with him at 8:00 this morning. We figure this kind of meet is in our future. Jake is just mesmerized with watching the boys, especially on the rings. Only time will tell.

Back among the living!!
Sorry I have been such a slacker. After a very long first trimester and several weeks into the second trimester and a lot of medication later, I am finally starting to feel somewhat human again. I wouldn't go so far as to say I feel good, but I am undoubtably better.
That being said...
Yesterday was Jake's 3rd birthday. We had a great time. On Wednesday we went to Chuck E. Cheese with some of our good friends and their kids. They give out birthday balloons and every kid Jake went past that had a balloon he would stop and tell them Happy Birthday. They would look at him like he was nuts, but that never stopped him. He had so much fun and in the car on the way home he says, "Mommy, that was sure a great day!". How can you beat that?
We asked Jake what he wanted for his birthday dinner and he wanted Chicken and Trees (broccoli). What kid asks for Broccoli??? He also had to have a green cake. I don't know where that came from or why, but it was not his birthday until he had a green cake that was on fire! While he was napping I was the creative Mom I used to be pre-pregnancy and attempted to decorate a cake. NOTE: NEVER LET A PREGGO DO THIS!! When I tried to flip the cake out of the non-stick pan it broke into about 3 pieces with a good portion still stuck in the pan. So through the tears and the not so mommy like words I somehow managed to put all the pieces back into what looked like a cake. I then turned the frosting into a lovely shade of green, trimmed it with yellow and added some John Deere Tractor candles. He was very excited when he woke up. After our family dinner, green cake and many presents mom and dad were very thankful to flop into bed in exhaustion. However, that was not Jake's plan. Now I have post birthday exhaustion!! I need to nap because tonight Arlen and I are going on a real date to the Toby Keith concert. We even have seats on the floor in about the 20th row. I am really excited, I just hope I can stay awake!
